School News –April 2022

It was lovely to have the extra bank holiday for St Patrick’s weekend this year! On Wednesday 16th of March-the whole school wore GREEN to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and to raise money for Ukraine through UNICEF. A great day was had in the school!

On Tuesday 22nd of March, the Parent’s Association organised a Tidy-Up evening with Ms Gow around the school. This tidy-up evening consisted of litter-picking and planting around the school-cleaning up the bedding areas at the front of the school. Take a look when you drive by-the work that was carried out was absolutely fantastic. A HUGE thank you to the Parent’s Association, the parents who helped on the evening and Ms Gow for this wonderful initiative and for keeping our school looking beautiful. We hope to hold another tidy-up evening in the months ahead.

5th and 6th Class are very busy participating in Cumann na mBunscoil GAA Football this year. The boy’s team were brilliant in the league this year and they represented the school brilliantly in all of their matches. They are looking forward to next year already! The girl’s team had a huge success coming out top of the league and will now proceed to the Cumann na mBunscoil final in O’Moore Park after Easter. This is a huge achievement for the girls and for Maryborough NS and we wish them all the best of luck in the final! Get the blue and white flags out for Maryborough!!!!!

As we get closer to the Easter Break we remember how significant Easter is in our Church Calender. As we enjoy eating some yummy Easter Eggs we must remember the significance of the meaning of Easter and what Jesus did for us. This is a very special time of year and we look forward to learning about the story in school.

We will leave you with this wonderful poem for St Patrick’s Day composed by Michael Ladipo and Ryan Little-Doyle in 6th Class in Maryborough NS. It is remarkable. Well done boys-we are very proud of you!

There once was a lad named St Patrick,

He had a green hat and his story is fantastic.

He loved to pray to his lord and saviour,

And spread the word with all his prayers.

He was born in Wales telling tales,

He had no armour and got captured by a farmer.

The farmer sold him to a lad named Tim,

He was made a slave and slept in a cave.

He fed the horses oats,

Put on their coats,

And pared their toes.

He fed the pigs and made them play with twigs,

They rolled in goo while looking for the loo.

Then he escaped like man in a cape.

He went to Ireland and brought Christianity to it,

He had a plan and he was going to do it.

The people of Ireland were all pagan,

Didn’t believe in God and needed saving.

He spread the word, some didn’t believe it,

Some didn’t listen the word of God was what they were missing.

He built giant churches to get their attention,

God, Jesus and more is what they would mention.

St Patrick was known in all the states,

And also getting rid of all the snakes.

Now the word of God spreads far like elastic,

THAT’S WHY WE CELEBRATE ST PATRICK!!!
